Martial Law

Today marks a day of intoduction of Martial law, which was enforced in Poland from December 13, 1981, to July 22, 1983. The government of the Polish People's Republic severely restricted daily life to counter political opposition, notably the Solidarity movement. In the attached photo, Edinburgh students are shown collecting signatures for a Solidarity support petition in 1981. #PolandHistory #SolidarityMovement #Remembrance
